Bishop’s Castle Railway, South Shropshire
Partly inspired by old geological maps which have comments around the outside of the geology. For example, the 1893 map of Gairloch which can be seen in the BGS Maps Portal.
Data
- Route of railway digitised from OS 25” map tiles from National Library of Scotland.
- OS Terrain 50 contours.
- OpenStreetMap
Tools I used
- QGIS
What did I learn?
- That if font is set as a variable, layout labels still use the width of the font that is set in the box, even if you ask it to use the variable.
- That text on layouts can become a complete mess when you export to pdf or svg, particularly if layout labels contain html. It seemed fine as png.
- Using tools from the Label toolbar to make labels invisible or move them is simple.
